Thanks for all of your comments about yourselves. After reading your surveys and looking at this blog I feel like I have a better picture of who you all are. Sorry I haven't been posting a lot on here, that is something that I am going to try to work on....starting right now!
Lets talk about the Greeks and more specifically, the Greek gods. As we learned in class these gods and myths were a way for the Greeks to try to explain things that they didn't understand. They didn't know what lightning was or where it came from, just that it was powerful. So they made up a story about Zeus (king of the gods) throwing lightning bolts down from Mt.
Olympus.
Traveling by sea was a huge part of Greek culture. As you can imagine, Greek sailors often ran into bad weather while out exploring or trading for exotic goods. Out of fear and respect for the power of the sea the Greeks created a god of water, Poseidon. Many fisherman and sailors prayed that they would have safe passage on their journeys.
The Greeks also created gods based on qualities that they found important or desirable. They often looked up to these gods and tried to please them by building monuments in their honor. An example of this is the Parthenon, a temple built to please Athena the goddess of war.
So... If the gods of Mt Olympus were the heros of the Greek culture, who do you think would be the heros of our culture today? Try to think about the people that everyone knows and loves. Why are they famous and do they deserve to be? What does this say about what we value in people.

I think the Greek gods are really cool. since I haven't posted any thing about myself. I will! I really enjoy spending time with animals. I also want to be a vet when I grow up. I also have turner syndrome. It's not that bad it only makes me a bit shorter.I have a 8 year old brother, a dog and I live with my mom and, dad I going to a horse back riding lesson on Thursday.

A lot of people might look up to the President, or someone who maybe helps the community, like Ty Pennington or someone. It depends on the person, who they look up to. Lately, people value very different things in people. Wit, knowledge, smarts. Lots of things
BARACK OBAMA! Hey, Leah here, and a lot of people look up to President Obama because he promises to bring change to our country. The new stimulus bill he signed just recently, many people think it will help our economy get better. As you can read in USA today, "Was that the thud at the bottom?" Translated: Can we go any further into crisis? Nowhere we can go but UP! With this new stimulus bill, it will pay for jobs to be created, and so we can we can have more green energy jobs. It will also provide money for "MEDICAID" funding so people like my mom can keep their jobs. But there are some problems too, like we need government regulation on how our money is spent. I believe if we all work together, we can make it out of this financial crisis!
(Please excuse the opinionated schoolgirl who just wrote that paragraph!)

Actually, if u don't mind, Athena is also the god of wisdom, household arts and crafts, spinning and weaving,and finally, inventor of the bridle and charriot. :)
I think that slavery is wrong because people could just boss you around for no reason so i think thats unfair!
